Port Isaac was a busy coastal port from the Middle Ages to the mid 19th. century when it was an active harbour where cargo like stone, coal, timber and pottery were loaded and unloaded.

Little is known about the history of the recent castle. The castle is most famous for its association with legendary King Arthur. The site is known to have been occupied by the Romans for tin mining, but it is as a Royal stronghold of the Cornish Kings during the 5th & 6th centuries that the legend takes hold.

With almost 300 vehicles on exhibition from 26 countries it is the most wide-ranging collection of tanks and armoured vehicles in the world. It includes the only working example of a German Tiger I tank and a British World War I Mark I; the world’s oldest surviving combat tank.

Wiltshire is the county for white horses. There are or were at least twenty-four of these hill figures in Britain, with no less than thirteen being in Wiltshire, and another white horse, the oldest of them all, being just over the border in Oxfordshire. Most of the white horses are chalk hill carvings, and the chalk downs of central Wiltshire make it an ideal place for such figures.
